My very close friend is a CEO of a large multinational. He called me and asked if I was available for the day as he wanted to show me something special. I said “Yes” and what happened next was a very thought provoking experience.
He arrived in a brand new top of the range Maserati and asked me to join him for the day. I could not wait to experience this magnificent piece of engineering.
We headed to a track so that he could allow the Maserati to perform. We took off as smooth as silk and the acceleration of 0-100 km in 5 seconds took my breath away. We hit 285 kph on the straight.
On the journey back home we stopped to refill this engineering magic. He said “The downside is that it uses a lot of petrol”
It hit me that even with all of this excellence, it still needed petrol (by the way, the best quality petrol not E-10)
Just like our people at work …
We pride ourselves that we hire only the best (the Maserati) and we should fuel them constantly with the best grade fuel (leadership). And in the right environment we allow them to ignite their discretionary effort (just like the open track).
